Twenty paved miles, seventeen dirt miles and three hold-on miles from the ranch are our two high-alpine lakes, the Lost Lakes at 11,000 ft elevation. Guides' day off got switched last minute from Saturday to Friday so with Thursday afternoon free, we bolted for our fist look at the lakes this season.
Inhabitants of these two lakes include Yellowstone Cutthroat and the mighty Eastern Brook Trout. Springtime/early summertime will find the cuttys in full spawn mode and the creek that runs between the two lakes is the place where the fish pair up and get busy. And were they ever.
On the property sits a cabin with a full kitchen, solar-powered lights and two sets of bunkbeds. A perfect locale for anyone interested in getting away.
And getting into fish. The fishing on the lakes is, how do I phrase this... extremely productive.
Brookies and cuttys were very favorable to a streamer presentation, as well as foam hoppers.
Night time hit the spot just as well as the lakes and the cabin did.
As we enjoyed our last free time before our summer filled with weeks of guided trip after guided trip, we let every fish be just as fun as the one before, and each laugh be louder than the last.
